What You Leave Out

The boy diet calls for you to leave out milk and fish. This is because of calcium levels in these foods (there’s high calcium in all dairy products).

Traditional healthy cultures usually ate either copious amounts of raw dairy, or they ate a lot of seafood. The moms in these cultures conceived easily and had healthy, happy babies. The children grew and thrived well.

It’s important to be very careful when you design your boy diet – there’s not point in swaying for a boy if you make yourself unhealthy for your baby in the process.

If you choose to leave both dairy products and fish out of your diet, eat a lot of red meat and eat organ meats to give yourself plenty of protein and animal fats. I think it probably best not to leave both out, but to choose one that you feel the most comfortable with.

Some boy diet advisors state that you can replace cow or goat milk with “nut milks” but you don’t want to do this – those “milks” are filled with sugars and processed additives that aren’t good for you or the baby you’re trying to conceive. Everybody agrees you should run, not walk, far away from soy milk.

What you decide to do is completely up to you. “Official” boy diet recommendations say leave out dairy and fish – my recommendation is to have around a quart of milk a day (whole milk from cows eating grass, not feedlot cows). Then make the rest of your diet lower in calcium until you get past ovulation.

Foods That You Should Eat

You do want to eat lots of lower calcium foods. Here are some examples of good foods to eat:

  • Celery
  • Tomatoes
  • Baby Carrots
  • Peaches
  • Pears

Some boy diet advice says to eat iceburg lettuce rather than leaf lettuces (which contain calcium) – if you don’t care to eat totally nutritionally empty iceburg lettuce, however, just skip the salads from your period through ovulation and eat lower calcium foods that have more nutrition.

High potassium foods are also good on the boy diet:

  • Meat (red meat is especially good)
  • Potatoes (eat with plenty of butter)
  • Apricots
  • Cantaloupe
  • Bananas
  • Oranges
  • Apples
  • Cherries
  • Pineapples
  • Gelatin (get pure beef gelatin)
  • Watermelon
  • Zucchini

There are certain “drinks” that can help you to sway for a boy. Most of these are harmless to you and baby, they just lower pH. I think the drinks are a good option for influencing your pH without having to give up nourishing foods. They don’t taste very good, though – so be warned!

Baking Soda drinks – follow the directions on the box for drinking baking soda. Drink this between your period and for a day or so after ovulation. Don’t go over around 3 teaspoons of baking soda per day.

Apple Cider Vinegar drink – You need to get raw Apple Cider Vinegar because it will still have the “mother” with it (that’s the culture that turns it into vinegar). Mix 2 tablespoons of water with 4oz of apple cider vinger and drink three times a day, starting after lunch.

Cream of Tartar drink – this is an easy potassium-rich drink. Build up to the max amount, which is about 7 teaspoons a day. Have this drink from your period until a day or so after ovulation. Mix 1/2 teaspoon of cream of tartar into your baking soda drinks. Wait for the fizzing to stop 🙂

Lemon water – even though lemons and limes are acidic, they become alkaline in the body. Add lemon or lime juice squeezes to your water.

Remember to be sensible with everything you decide to eat and drink. Many of the supplements and drinks don’t taste good, but they should not make you sick.

When I did the boy diet I went for plenty of meats and lots of homemade fruit gelatin. I also ate eggs and I didn’t cut out my whole milk – I wanted the fertility and the health boost. I did use all the “boy drinks.” You decide what parts of the diet you feel comfortable following and create a plan for you. It’s best to work on the diet for the entire time you’re TTC (the drinks can just go from period to ovulation) – and your man needs to be eating the same kind of foods. His pH matters too!
