The Odds of Getting Pregnant – and How to Increase Them
There are numerous statistics out there on your odds of getting pregnant. I'm going to elaborate on some of them in this article. But the most important thing – no matter what your age or situation – is increasing your personal chances of conceiving when you want to.
I'm going to cover some methods of doing just that in this article as well.
What the Numbers Say
Conventional wisdom says that in any given cycle your odds of getting pregnant are about 25%. Now some women are convinced their odds are really .25% – and others are convinced their odds are 125% 😉
But the so-called experts tell us that if you have no fertility issues, and if your partner has no fertility issues, you have a 15-25% chance of conceiving.

In general 40% of women trying to conceive fall pregnant within the first 3 cycles. After a year of trying to conceive about 85% of women are successful.
It's undeniable that age alters the odds of getting pregnant. You're most fertile in your early reproductive years – late teens to mid-twenties. After the age of thirty your chances of conceiving have dropped by about 20% of what they were, after 35 they've dropped by around 30%, and after 40 they've dropped by 50%.
Beat the Numbers
So what can you do to increase your chances of getting pregnant? Reading this article was a great first step ;). Here are 5 more steps to take:
- Find out how to chart your cycles
- Improve your nutrition
- Examine your attitude and concerns
- Check your sleep and night lighting
- Use an ovulation test kit or fertility monitor
Charting your cycle is the very first thing I recommend. It's vital because it first gives you an overview of what's going on. Secondly it helps you increase your odds of getting pregnant because you'll easily be able to track the results of your other fertility enhancers.
Work on your nutrition next – you need a specialized fertility diet to build your own health. It'll help in normalizing your cycles if they're irregular and it will increase your fertility no matter what your age.
Your attitudes and concerns are important. Your state of mind has a powerful influence on you. Conscious conception is a term that sums up doing the important work of preparing for conception on all levels. You may surprised just what some honest self-reflection turns up (and how effectively you can clear fears or worries out).
It's important to get enough sleep for your own health, and getting enough sleep also influences your fertility. In addition, your night lighting can have a powerful impact on when and if your body can ovulate.
Finally, if you want confirmation of what your chart says, if you want extra assurance, or if you're having a hard time figuring out just what's going on with your cycle, use an ovulation test kit or fertility monitor. The clear picture you get you can help you instantly increase your odds of getting pregnant – but do use them in conjunction with the other four things I suggested!
